October 2015

October 2015 saw the introduction of compulsory smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for rental properties.

We are AICO registered installers with up to date knowledge of all of their products, enabling us to install the correct detection for your property. Poorly specified, poorly located and incorrect devices installed, give rise to false alarms, usually resulting in tenants removing batteries, covering detectors in food wrap or plastic bags and even smashing them from the ceiling, which obviously removes any fire protection they had.

Correctly installed, sealed for life detectors will give you and your tenants peace of mind from false alarms, batteries being removed (sometimes for other devices) and keeps you (the landlord) the right side of the law.

The new Aico range has built in reporting (via an APP) on both smoke and CO detectors, which, since their inception, has already saved a life and has caught out a tenant interfering with the detector in order to be moved to a different property.

The law in England has not yet specified if the smoke detectors have to be mains type with battery back up (which most of the Aico range is) whereas in Scotland, Wales and NI have specified the standard must be to BS5839 Part 6

We would advise the fitting of mains type as upgrading or changing of the detectors at the end of the product life, is much easier with the Aico slide base system.

However !

There are other detectors we have used which have ten year built in lithium batteries, and wireless technology for interlinking without the need for wiring, we can also obtain and fit these with relevant certification.
